Perkasie, PA
was named from Lenni Lenape word, Pokesing, meaning "where hickory nuts were cracked." Like the surrounding towns, Perkasie was very small before the arrival of the railroad.  Up until 1853 the railroad only extended from Philadelphoa to Fort Washington.  When the extension began, it was temporarily stalled due to a Cholera epidemic, but by 1858 trains could travel from Philadelphia to Bethlehem, ushering in and era of growth for Perkasie and the entire area.
