Sneak a Peek at the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu

September 29th, 2021 by

The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu is an efficient and attractive midsize sedan that offers a spacious interior, an easy-to-use infotainment system, and a choice of two turbo-powered engines. For the new model year, the Malibu receives only a few minor changes, such as the removal of the base L trim.

A Choice of Two Engines

The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu features the same engine choices as its predecessor. The standard 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine works with a continuously variable transmission to generate an output of 160 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque.

Those who want a more robust output of 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque can opt for the available 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, which pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard on both engines. You’ll receive decent fuel efficiency, rated at 29 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, from the base engine.

Stylish Exterior

The 2022 Malibu comes with the same sleek body Chevy introduced for the 2019 model year. The design includes muscular lines, a large dual-port grille, and slim headlights. For the new model year, two paint options fall away, namely Shadow Gray Metallic and Black Cherry Metallic. They are replaced by two new additions: Mineral Gray Metallic and Dark Ash Metallic.

Standard exterior features offered with the base trim remain the same. These include halogen headlights, daytime running lights, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and power-adjustable side mirrors. Higher trims add conveniences such as heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, 19-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlamps, and a dual-pane power sunroof.

Spacious Interior

The Malibu’s cabin doesn’t undergo any changes for the new model year. You can expect comfortable seating for up to five passengers and a respectably sized cargo area of 15.7 cubic feet. The interior design is pleasant and functional. The touch screen between the two air vents integrates nicely into the center console, while large buttons and knobs make it easy to differentiate the controls.

Standard interior features on the new LS base trim include air conditioning, cruise control, carpeted floor mats, premium cloth upholstery, a rear window defogger, and keyless open and start. The higher trims add luxuries such as dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Modern Technology

The new Malibu is equipped with the same technology as its predecessor. The standard 8-inch infotainment system is both easy to use and well-equipped with a USB port, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Bluetooth. You can upgrade the system with available features such as wireless charging and a nine-speaker Bose audio system.

Like its predecessor, the new Malibu is sparsely equipped as far as safety features go. However, it boasts plenty of available driver-assist systems. These include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, lane-change alert, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.

Although the new Malibu doesn’t offer a ton of updates, it remains a solid choice in the sedan segment. For more in-depth information about the Malibu, drop by A&T Chevrolet dealer.
