Why the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Is Worth the Wait
According to GMAuthority.com, the launch of the C8 Corvette Z06 has been pushed back to the 2023 model year. The reason is apparently the overwhelming success of the regular Corvette model, which is selling so fast the manufacturer is battling to cope with the demand. Although Z06 fans might understandably be frustrated with the delay of the new model’s launch, they just need to sit tight. The new Z06 promises to be such a delightful offering that it’s well worth the wait. Here’s what we know so far about this hardcore, track-focused Corvette.
Monster Engine
The Z06 will be powered by a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V-8 engine, which should rev to between 8,500 and 9,000 rpm. If the rumors are true, the engine will deliver between 615 to 625 horsepower, and the torque output should be around 480 pound-feet. It will pair with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and come standard with rear-wheel drive.
Racetrack Performance
Apart from a potent powertrain, the Z06 will boast flared fenders, large air scoops, and aerodynamic features that provide maximum high-speed downforce and cornering traction. You’ll also be able to corner harder and stop the Z06 in a shorter distance, due to wider, stickier tires and more powerful brakes. In addition, the sports car will feature an upgraded exhaust system, a recalibrated suspension, and a standard e-differential that delivers superior traction.
Snazzy Interior
Features such as a square steering wheel and a wall of controls on the center console make for an unusual cabin appearance. However, the interior layout, which includes a low, thin dashboard, is drivercentric and provides great sightlines. Although it has not been confirmed, we expect the interior of the Z06 to feature lightweight racing seats and added carbon-fiber and microsuede inserts.
The Z06 is also likely to offer the Corvette’s roomy trunk, which can comfortably accommodate two sets of golf clubs, according to the manufacturer. Standard and available features include a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, wireless charging, and a 12.0-inch fully digital gauge cluster.
Modern Technology
The Z06 will most likely be equipped with the Corvette’s easy-to-use 8-inch infotainment system, which offers standard features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 10-speaker sound system. You’re also likely to receive a standard Performance Data Recorder, with which you can record your performance on the track or your weekend leisurely drives.
As far as driver-assist technologies go, the Z06 will probably offer the same standard features as the Corvette. If so, standard driver-assist technologies will be limited to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Even though you might have to wait for the 2023 model year for the launch of the new Corvette Z06, the delay is sure to be worth it. Featuring the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 engine, track-inspired high-performance features, and a stylish and drivercentric interior, the Corvette Z06 truly stands out from the rest.
